Course Description
This course is an investigation into the foundational principles of the Pilates method, a mind-body system of conditioning and strengthening developed by Joseph and Clara Pilates between 1920-1967. Students will become familiar with Pilates terminology and progressions, as well as gain a basic understanding of functional anatomy and physiology concepts. Exercises are primarily designed to gain core strength (abdominal, back, and lumbopelvic region), and enhance flexibility, posture and body awareness. Both classical and contemporary Pilates mat exercises will be taught, occasionally employing props such as flex band, small Pilates balls, and yoga blocks.
