Develop skills in structures construction/maintenance and harvesting and processing related to specific fruit and vegetable crops.

Develop a general understanding of plant growth and development.

Improve their basic knowledge of regulatory programs such as MIOSHA Agricultural Standards; agricultural safety regulations; water protection regulations; pesticide and fertilizer application requirements; and food safety regulations.

Acquire a specific understanding of water needs of horticultural crops, irrigation timing, scheduling and the repair and maintenance of irrigation systems used in commercial horticulture settings.

Establish an understanding of local agricultural practices, technology, marketing and economics.

Gain specific skills in plant establishment, maintenance, and production

Learn pest management strategies and integrated pest management practices for commercial horticulture crops.

Gain specific knowledge to pass the Michigan Certified Pesticide Applicator private core exam.
