Identify other important political philosophies and distinguish between them and your own philosophy.

Identify the key political institutions in US government, understand their role in the political process, and identify key debates on reform.

Explain both the electoral and non-electoral approaches to policy change. Students should be able to assess the following questions: How does one make change in the U.S. political system? What are the benefits and challenges of each approach?

Understand and evaluate the key debates in American political thought and in contemporary politics.
