Course Description

This course will introduce students to important ecological phenomena and processes that occur in aquatic (freshwater) ecosystems. The Great Lakes as well as regional streams, lakes, and wetlands will be studied in detail to provide context for the ecological concepts covered. The course will include online lectures and assignments at the beginning of the summer semester and a 1-week intensive field experience at the Central Michigan University Biological Station on Beaver Island in Northern Lake Michigan. The trip to CMU BS is a required component of the course. For the Summer 2023 semester the Beaver Island CMU BS trip is scheduled for July 6-12. The course fee will cover transportation to/from Charlevoix, Ml., ferry transport to/from Beaver Island, and all lodging and meals at the CMU BS.
