To expand students ability to paint from observation as well as allow students to develop and explore a variety of other types of subject matter dependent upon their interests.

To utilize a variety of paint application techniques and work on a number of different types of grounds or painting surfaces.

To learn and practice more elaborate and intense methods for brainstorming/idea development, and techniques for conducting visual research that all aid in the process of creating interesting and thought provoking works of art

To expand upon students knowledge of creative problem solving through sketching and trial and error and help students develop a more sophisticated ability to evoke meaning in a work of art.

To develop an expanded understanding of 2-d design principles and compositional devices used in the creation of a visually interesting piece of artwork.

To develop an increased art/design vocabulary as well as the ability to analyze your work and the work of your peers and place that work in the context of contemporary art and art from various points in history.

To develop and execute planned proposals that are unique to students individual interests in subject matter and desired painting styles, media, and application techniques.

To execute works in a way that make issues relating to craftsmanship become seamless or invisible.
