Identify and apply 2-d design principles and compositional devices used in the creation of a visually interesting piece of artwork.

Experiment with and master numerous types of drawing tools, materials, and techniques and demonstrate good craftsmanship practices in each.

Discover and experiment with rationales for visualization self-expression and how form relates to content and gain a rudimentary understanding of the role that concept plays in art making.

Develop and demonstrate an ability to draw accurately from observation and gain an awareness of the pivotal role perception plays in drawing and creativity.

Effectively analyze your work and the work of your peers using vocabulary associated with drawing and be able to articulate productive and relevant criticism in the classroom and in written assignments.

Gain exposure to some art historical movements and an awareness of some of the issues facing contemporary artists.

Experiment with mixed media, larger drawing formats and with proposing and executing a series of drawings determined by them.

Prepare a portfolio of up to 20 pieces of artwork for submission to 4-year art programs of their choice under the guidance of the instructor. This portfolio may or may not include the newer drawing pieces and professionally document this work digitally under guidance of the instructor.
