Understand factors influencing the beginning of the Renaissance and the art produced: identify Early and High Renaissance Italian, Northern European and Spanish art and the cultural context that produced these movements.

Identify time periods and works of art of the Early and High Renaissance.

Understand the religious and cultural contexts of the Renaissance period.

Identify and describe the art of south and southeast Asia, China, Korea and Japan post-1200.

Identify and describe major artists, works of art and artistic movements within the time frames that followed the Renaissance. This includes: Roccoco, Neo-Classicism, and Romanticism in Europe.

Identify and describe indigenous arts of the Americas, Oceania and post-European conquest cultures of the non-western world.

Identify and describe 19th-20th c. African arts and discuss their characteristics and meaning.

Identify and describe the development of Modernism in Europe and the US including various artistic movements such as: Expressionism, Impressionism, Abstraction, Fauvism, Dada, Cubism, Surrelaism, etc.

Identify and describe the art of the later 20th century as it transitions to the 21st century, which will include: performance art, conceptual art, installation and environmental art and technology.

Analyze art throughout the historical range of our study using the vocabulary of design by understanding the use of terms such as: Rhythm, Balance, Repetition, Chiarascuro, etc.
